A highly anticipated clash between the top two in the league saw Bombers looking for a hat trick of victories in this competition and a seventh straight cup final victory win. The two sides seemed to be feeling eachother out for the majority of the first half with most of the action in the midfield until two minutes before the break when Stevie Green turned in a cross from the left to put Terregles in front, The goal put a different complexion on the second half and Bombers were level within a couple of minutes of the restart as a clearance was charged charged down and the keeper blocked off the striker, the referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Kenni Dinnell making no mistake with the penalty. Terregles were back in front within three minutes with Sandy Kennedy unleashing a 25 yard howitzer which flew past the keeper. Bombers then levelled again from the spot with man of the match Kenni Dinnell the scorer and before the hour mark went ahead for the first time in the game with a wonderful strike from Graeme Kilpatrick who flcked a pass over the defender and volleyed in from outside the box. Terregles did grab an equaliser through substitute Michael McGhie, who collected a through ball and finished smartly. But Bombers werent to be denied and another quickfire response with Graeme Maxwell bursting down the right wing and delivering a cross come shot which dipped just under the bar to win the trophy for Five Arches.
