Bombers bag another trophy

Sunday was the annual Soccer Sixes at the Queen of the South Arena, with 13 teams entered and some fantastic football played. In Group A Five Arches Bombers led the way, but didn't get things all their own way as Dumfries Athletic beat them, but couldn't stop them topping the group. Dumfries went through in third spot after losing to Normandy Star who finished second. Scaur A grabbed the fourth spot in the quarter finals, with all 4 teams only losing one group match each, while AFC Gretna missed out after losing late on to Bombers, and FC Annan and Scaur B also bowed out at the group stage. Group B was fiercely contested, although Annan Town romped home with five wins from five, the four teams behind them all finished on seven point and only goal difference saw Palmerston Colts miss out on the quarters. In the knock out stages Bombers saw off defending champions Ruthwell Rovers, Morton Thistle needed penalties to get past Dumfries, Normandy Star ousted league leaders Terregles and Annan Town sent Scaur A home. The semi finals were both tight matches, Bombers eased past Morton Thistle by three goals to one and Annan Town finished strongly to beat Normandy 4-1 after going behind. The final saw Bombers save their best for last as they inflicted Annan's only defeat of the tournament with a masterful 4-1 win to add the sixes trophy to their haul of silverware.
