Weekly Report 22nd November


Five Arches played host to champions Annan Town, and the Bombers proved a tough nut to crack though Brian Mattinson spurned a gilt edged chance before midway through the first half Five Arches took the lead thanks to Thomas Coles and held it until 61 minutes when Darren Watson finished well to bring the game level. The game then seemed to be heading for a draw but came alive at the death when Annans keeper Peters pulled off a good save then minutes later was at it again producing another fine stop and making a stunning tip over the bar from the rebound. Annan then from a corner hit the bar twice in a frantic scramble and in injury time Mattinson squared a ball to youngster Bell who passed the ball into the net for a crucial win. League leaders Hole in Wa visited Penpont and Wa continued their fine season with another strong performance particularly as Scaur are getting players back. Joe Jardine was again pivitol as he set up Terry Jardine at the back post for an easy tap in after 12 minutes. Minutes before half time Mark Milligan then put in a corner where Bruce McQuarrie headed Wa into a two goal lead. The game stayed fairly tight until the last minute when Scott Gordon released Joe Jardine who chipped the keeper from an acute angle for a great victory for the Wa. Loreburn Thistle were threatening to get some good performances together but came unstuck against Palmerston Colts who hit them for 10 on the day. The first 30 minutes saw Colts squander numerous chances but eventually they took the lead through Ally Mason before Craig Kerr and Grieg Corbett also netted. In the second half Palmerston started to move through the gears scoring freely with Bryce Fraser, Mark Cravens, Craig Kerr, Liam Malcolm and Andy Gilston all getting in on the act as a double from Ally Mason saw him complete his hat-trick. Reece Brown scored a late consolation for the visitors. Jolly Harvester produced a stunning win in a potentially tight game against Nithside Colts. Nicky Paton knocked down a chance in the opening 5 minutes for Sean Peat to open the scoring, Nicky Paton then rounded the keeper for the second goal, Paton then latched onto a long ball to finish well past the Nithside keeper. Nithside though scored just before half time to keep themselves in the game. Sean Peat then got his second before Liam Watson passed to Graham Beckett to finish at the back post. Moffat Thistle played host to Kelloholm and will be happy with the 3 points, Moffats goals coming from Sean Walker (2), Kevin Jack and Justin Borthwick. Greens Park visited Summerhill and will be delighted to have produced a strong performance Johnny Riddick opened the scoring for Greens on 15 minutes before Robbie Simpson doubled their lead on the half hour mark. Greens were playing well and spurned further chances before Jamie Simpson scored a penalty to make sure of the points. Normandy will be delighted to come away from Clarencefield with a good win as Ruthwell Rovers struggle to get their season going. John Howie scored a double, Kris Shannon, Jack Loudon, Cammy Sinclair and John Reid completed the scoring. Terregles are keeping the winning habit seeing off Annan Town Development 6-3. Annan hit the bar and forced Terregles keeper into a good early save but eventually Terregles started to get into the game and eventually went in at half time 3-0 ahead. Annan though rallied in the second half but Terregles saw the game out. Terregles scorers were David Marshall (3), Euan Francis (2) and Jordan Jones. Annans scorers on the day were Connor Rae, Paul Schoolar and Rikki Ogilvie.Youth will be delighted they also won to keep the top two in their sightss. Islam Kadyrov scored 5 on the day Shaun Kirk (2), Stefan Tate (2), Steven Dinnell, Anton Mackay and Bruce Coupland completed the scoring for the hosts.
