Crucial win for the Wa sends title race to the wire.

Hole in the Wa knew they had to win their final two games of the season to have any chance of the league title and it was looking good against Moffat Thistle last Thursday night as Dale Talaszko and Terry Jardine had them two nil up and cruising at half time. A third from Davy Paterson looked to have sealed it but Moffat roared back and a Roddy Carlyle header twenty minutes from time reduced the arrears and set up a tense finale, when Roddy Carlyle grabbed a second for Moffat, The Wa began to look nervy but they held on for all three points to set up a crunch match against leaders Annan on Sunday. Annan knew if they could avoid defeat they would be crowned champions but Wa were up for the battle and an early Davy Paterson strike put the cat among the pigeons. The importance of the match was evident, and neither team was able to produce the flowing football they have displayed all season, but their was plenty of commitment and effort all over the park. On the hour mark Annan were awarded a penalty and Brain Mattinson coolly converted to turn things back Towns way. The Wa had to go for it and pushed forward, ten minuted later they were back in front as Terry Jardine pounced. Again Annan came back though and Darren Watson skipped a couple of tackles on the edge of the box to lash home another equaliser. Hole in the Wa saw their hopes slipping away and went all out attack penning Annan back for the last few minutes with the Annan keeper making some fine saves but as the clock looked to have run out a Bruce McQuarrie header across goal found Scott Gordon who fired home to send The Wa top of the league, Annan will need to pick themselves up as they now need to win their final match of the season at Beattock on Thursday night against triple cup winners Moffat Thistle. Five Arches Bombers also had a good week despite being two nil down at half time to Scaur on Thursday night after strikes from Chris Cloy and John Martin, Bombers came back and an own goal and David Bradbury strike earned them a point. Then on Sunday they hosted Kelloholm and Keiron O'Connor scored for the visitors before being carried off with a broken ankle, Gary Edwards also netted for Kelloholm but a David Bradbury hat trick and strikes from Greg Rice and Duncan Smith gave Bombers the win. The league would like to wish Keiron a full and speedy recovery from his injury.
