Dumfries have play off spot in their sights

The battle for the play off spot in the First Division was the focus at the weekend with third placed FC Annan knowing they needed a win to have any hopes of catching Dumfries in second. John Campbell bagged a brace and Jimmy Reid scored to put Annan 3-0 up in the first half but Liam Watson pulled one back before the break and added three more in the second half for a remarkable turnaround and all but mathematically secure second place. Park Thistle still have slim hopes of snatching the play off spot as their 4-3 win over Ruthwell kept them in the running. Jamie Simpson opened the scoring for Park after 15 minutes but Ben Turner levelled ten minutes later and Callum Sloan sent Ruthwell in ahead at the break. A five minute spell around the hour mark saw Park level through an own then go in front through a Robbie Simpson solo effort then extend their lead as Robbie scored from a free kick. John Dalglish scored a third for Ruthwell to set up a tense final 20 minutes but Park held on to the points. Champions Bombers had to come from behind three times at Lockerbie, as Darcy Ross, Jon Muir and Michael Murray all had Black Bull in front. Graeme Maxwell, Duncan Smith and David Bradbury scored the equalisers before David Bradbury put the Bombers ahead for the first time and a Graeme Jamieson double secured the win. In the Premier Division Moffat Thistle need just one point from their last three games to secure the title as they picked up a 3-1 win over Kelloholm Arms thanks to a Jamie Carlyle double and Adam Henderson strike. Hole in the Wa kept their slim hopes alive as another Sean Peat hat trick, doubles for Eddie Marshall and Tommy Goss and a Davey Paterson effort saw off Queens Bar. Annan Town also picked up three points at the expense of Scaur. Iain Cameron with three for Annan and Danny Lockerby and Brian Mattinson also netting, with Chris Cloy and Kevan McCall on target for the visitors. Morton Youth and Nithside had to settle for a share of the spoils. Jordan Barker and Ben Dempster scoring for Morton and Michael McGhie and Thomas Nicholson replying for Nithside. In the Heathhall Garden Centre Trophy Palmerston Colts went goal crazy against Loreburn Thistle. Darren Kerr scored Five from central defence, but his tally was matched by Andrew Gilston, Greig Lawrie was one behind with four and Darren Tait bagged a brace with Aaron Callender and Darren McKnight also finding the net, but credit is due to the Loreburn players who stuck to their task on a torrid afternoon.
