Star bag Heathhall Trophy

Normandy Star saw off Hole in the Wa on Thursday night to win through to the Heathhall Garden Centre Trophy Final. It was the Wa who drew first blood though as Tommy Goss reacted when Sean Peat hit the post in the first minute and he made no mistake from the follow up. Normandy turned it round before half time though as Bobby Green pounced on 22 minuted and Mark Cravens scored from close range on 36 minutes. The match was level again five minutes into the second half thanks to a Davey Patterson header but Normandy grabbed thh winner with twenty minutes to play as John Howie beat the onrushing keeper to seal a final spot. Normandy started quicker in the Final on Sunday against Five Arches Bombers, with John Howie on hand as the keeper failed to collect on the edge of the 18 yard box and he slotted home inside 4 minutes. There was little to choose between the sides in the first half, with chances at a premium but Bombers managed to draw level just before the half hour mark as a cutback from the right wing was forced home. Normandy though retook the lead just before half time, thanks to a Paul McCann strike. Bombers pushed forward in the second half looking to get back into the game but Normandy looked comfortable. Darren Holt in the Normandy goal did pull off a couple of noteworthy saves to keep his side in front and with time running out Normandy broke into the box, and drew a foul, Kris Shannon stepped up to convert the penalty and give them breathing space. Two more goals in the last couple of minutes from Dylan Irving and a second from man of the match John Howie made the scoreline look more comfortable for Star but the trophy had been well earned. Normandy still have a final league match to play midweek and then the Houliston cup Final against Nithside to end the season next Sunday.
