The Sunday League season kicked off, as usual, with a round of League cup group fixtures. Holders Hole in the Wa were not in action and it was last seasons runners up Palmerston Colts who made the biggest impact of the day hitting double figures against Morton Youth. Ross Kerr bagged the first hat trick of the season with Darren Tait, Darren Monteith, Craig Kerr, Arron Callander, Bobby Brown, Ryan Gilmore and Drife Finlay all getting on the scoresheet while holding an understrength Morton side at bay. Normandy Star also set out their stall for the season in Group A with a good three nil win over champions Moffat Thistle. Cammy Sinclair, Jordan Muirhead and Gary White were on target in the all Premier tie. In Group B Park Thistle got the lions share of ten goals in their match with Queens Bar. Queens opened the scoring through Jon Muir but Quinn Rogerson soon levelled from the penalty spot and Chris Bailey fired Park ahead. Rab Clyde added two and Cole Rogerson scored then Robbie Simpson made it six before Paul Preston pulled a goal back for Queens. Jonny Riddick got Parks seventh and Corey Henderson scored with the last kick of the match to make it 7-3. Annan Town also took full points in Group B with a clinical performance against Scaur. Danny Lockerby scored from a penalty and a free kick and John Campbell and Darren Watson made it 4-0 to Annan. FC Annan also won as they visited Kelloholm but had to come from behind as the home team scored a fine long range goal, Mark Leesing sent the sides in level with a deft chip and James Reid secured the win in a tight second half with a superb free kick. New side Sands travelled to Ruthwell and came back with point thanks to a Cameron Crawford double in a 3-3 draw.Sands opened the scoring and their keeper saved a penalty before Ruthwell levelled through Matty Donagher. Sands went back in front before half time and it took until the 70th minute for Ruthwell to level again as Josh Davidson turned in from close range. Sands then went down to ten men but manged to take the lead for a third time but couldn't hold on as John Dalglish made it 3-3 in stoppage time. Nithside have high hopes for the season after winning two cups last year and they started with a 6-0 win over Summerhill. Steven Green and Thomas Nicholson bagged a brace apiece with Michael McGhie and Jordan Barker also netting. In a cracking encounter at Maryfield Dumfries Athletic went three down to Five Arches Bombers with a Russel Jardine double and Graeme Maxwell goal but they came back to level thanks to Cain McKie, Ali Baird and Corey Wells. Bombers retook the lead midway through the second half through Duncan Smith and late goals from Stephen McDill, Kieran Nicoll and Chris Ross put a sheen on the result.
