League Cup Groups Stages heat up

Group A was the group to watch in the League cup and a cracking midweek encounter saw Normandy Star triumph over Hole in the Wa three nil thanks to Tommy Goss, Jordan Paterson and Jordan Nish goals but Wa got three points on the board at the weekend with a convincing victory over Morton by eight goals to one. Paul Hair scored the only goal of the first half with a back post header and Duncan Purdie suffered an injury making a save, Morton levelled shortly after the restart through Liam Watson but then it was one way traffic with Allan Hunter and Marc Zutic both hitting doubles, Mikey Devlin netting and Ian Corson on the scoresheet with last word to Islam Kadyrov. Morton also suffered a midweek defeat to Moffat who had Adam Henderson hitting a hat trick and Adam Kerr also scoring in a 6-0 win, Sundays match saw Palmerston Colts top the group after a win in Moffat with Alan Milligan and Darren Monteith with two apiece and Craig Kerr and Kris Clark scoring and an Adam Kerr brace and Declan Wallace on target for Moffat. In group B Scaur bounced back from an opening day loss to knock seven past Park Thistle midweek, despite Park taking the lead through Cairn Jamieson, a hat trick for Matt Coleman, Sandy Bowie, Michael McRobert and Benn Nisbett all finding the net and a 6-2 win over Queens Bar saw Scaur progress to the quarters, again coming from behind after Corey Henderson and Kenneth Meader had scored for Queens, a Matt Thompson double, two from Matt Coleman and goals from Shaun Wood and Ben Louden saw them through. Annan will also be in the quarters after a 4-3 win over Park Thistle. Carl Crosbie scored twice before Rab Clyde reduced the deficit and Kriss Lismanis saved a penalty to give Park hope, an OG put Annan further ahead and Stephen Anderson made it four before a late rally and goals from Adrian Hughes and Jamie Simpson. FC Annan ran away with group C, but they had to come from 2-0 down to Ruthwell Roveres who had Callum Sloan and an own goal before Annan rallied and John Quinn, Chris McMenamin and Chris Norval scored to earn the points, a more comfortable win at the weekend with Mark Leesing scoring four of their 11 against Sands, Lewis Hawes, John Quinn, Tony Power, Jimmy Reid, Keith Rogerson, Chris McMenamin and an own goal completing the scoring. Sands had faired better midweek with their first win after seeing off Kelloholm 4-3 and Kelloholm grabbed a point on Sunday in a 2-2 draw with Ruthwell. Sandy King and Bryan Brown putting them two up before Callum Sloan pulled one back and Jamie Robson volleyed home to earn a point. In group D Five Arches and Nithside will both progress, the two shared four goals on Sunday with Tam Coles and Tom Smith on target for the Bombers to cancel out Michael McGhie and Thomas Nicholson efforts. Bombers had put seven past Summerhill midweek but Summerhill finished on a high after beating Premier Division Dumfries thanks to a Kyle Gallacher double and strikes from Ryan Harper and Liam Bruce, Ali Baird and Kyle McQueen scoring for Dumfries.
