Morton pick up crucial win

Morton Youth picked up their first win of the season and hauled themselves off the foot of the Premier as they turned in a workmanlike performance to beat Dumfries. An 18 yard strike from Grant Maxwell gave Morton the lead and a second from Alex Bedford made sure of the win as manager Billy Gracie played between the sticks and kept a clean sheet. At the other end of the table Moffat Thistle took a big step to retaining the league title and dented the hopes of Five Arches Bombers, with Julian Mills bagging a hat trick and Darren Hunter and Stefan Jackson also on target, with Russell Jardine and Graham Maxwell replying for the Bombers. Normandy Star kept up the pressure with an impressive win over Nithside. Tommy Goss and Cammy Sinclair bagged a brace apiece with Justion Bortwick, Mark Cravens and a trialist on taget. Palmerston Colts climbed to fourth as they saw off Hole in the Wa by the odd goal in five. It was the Wa who took the lead inside two minutes through Islam Kadyrov but Darren Monteith levelled two minutes later and midway through the first half Aaron Callendar put the Colts in front. Hole in the Wa levelled before half time with Marc Zutic firing home but Palmerston werent to be denied and on the hour mark a dangerous cross was touched into the net by an unfortunate defender. FC Annan travelled to Park Thistle in a match at the top of the First division and took the lead early on as a Jimmy Reid shot found itts way into the net. Park levelled from the spot through Chris Bailey but Annan went back in front through Chris McMenamin and held on for a vital win. Queens Bar climbed back to second as they picked up three good points at Kelloholm thanks to a Mark Carruthers double and goals from Rees Brown, Corey Henderson and Ryan Beattie.
