The annual Soccer Sixes were scheduled for the Queen of the South Arena on Sunday. The indoor tournament is the ideal opportunity for clubs to play some guaranteed football at this time of year, and while the snow ensured there would be no outdoor pitches playable it also put the competition in doubt. But regardless of the weather teams travelled from Moffat, Penpont and Annan to the popular tournament to join the Dumfries teams. In the morning sessions Normandy Star were the only team to win all four of their games, and they were joined in the Quarter Finals by Summerhill A who pipped Ruthwell to second spot in the section with a 1.0 win in the game between the two. Five Arches Bombers B topped Group B with three wins and a draw while Nithside progressed unbeaten in second after the drew their opening game against Hole in the Wa. With 19 teams in the competition the reward for best third place team was a place in the afternoon groups, and Ruthwell took it after Hole in the Wa drew their final match against Queens Bar when they needed a win. Ruthwell finished third again in Group D behind Palmerston Colts and Scaur A who were seperated by goal difference after drawing their match and winning their other three. Scaur B were the only team to top their group after losing a game, while Five Arches Bombers A edged out Summerhill A on goal difference by winning the final group game between the two. The quarter Finals paired the two Scaur teams, with the A side winning 8-4 to meet Palmerston Colts again in the Semi after the Colts saw off Five Arches Bombers A by two goals to nil. Five Arches B made the semis with a 4-1 win over Summerhill A, where they met Normandy Star who needed penalties to get past Nithside and Star made the final with another spot kick decider after sharing 8 goals. Palmerston Colts saw off Scaur A with three unanswered goals to set up an intriguing final. Normandy scored first but Palmerston rallied and went 3-1 up before Normandy pulled one back as the game went from end to end. Two more Colts goals seemed to tie up the trophy but Normandy pulled another back before Palmerston added a sixth to lift the silverware.
