Premier teams shine in cup ties

The weather continued to play havoc with the Sunday league as more matches were lost to Frozen pitches last weekend, and only three games survived. Hole in the Wa hosted Ruthwell in the First round of the cup and the Premier side made short work of their first division opponents. Ruthwell suffered the worst possible start as Allan Hunter curled a corner straight into the net to open the scoring inside the first minute, Ruthwell settled though and resisted for over half an hour before Chris Cloy struck from outside the box to make it two, a goal five minutes later from Islam Kadyrov tapping home from short range put the Wa firmly in control and a fourth on the stroke of half time from a Kris Shannon free kick put the result beyond doubt. The Wa went further ahead with an early second half goal from Allan Hunter. But again Ruthwell dug in and on the hour mark got a consolation goal with an overhead kick from Stuart Dalgliesh. The last twenty minutes belonged to the Wa though with Dale Talaszko netting from close range, Islam Kadyrov on target again. Allan Hunter completing his hat trick from distance and Islam also adding his third before Dale Talaszko brought up double figures five minutes from time. Another Premier v First tie saw Nithside travel to Kelloholm and they looked to be cruising after going three up with early goals from Kyle Robertson, Aaron Currie and Sandy Kennedy, but an injury reduced them to ten men, Despite the numerical advantage Kelloholm couldn't force their way back into the match and a fourth goal from Ross Kane saw Nithside safely through. There was also one league match at Holm park where Five Arches Bombers had a chance to go second with a win and went in front with a Graeme Maxwell strike. Annan Town came back though and John Campbell levelled before Liam Grimley put them ahead. A stoppage time goal from Graeme Maxwell denied Annan the win but Bombers will feel a point is not enough to keep them in the title race.
