Sands win at last while trophies are handed out

The TPS trophy finalists were decided last midweek in two cracking matches down the Holm Park. Moffat Thistle were looking to add a cup to their league title and faced a Palmerston Colts team with a fine record in knockout competition. There was little to choose between the two sides, other than a solitary goal from Callum Saunders which saw Moffat into the final. On the other park, the Sunday League el classico was in full swing with Five Arches having two cups in the bag this term and going for the clean sweep but Hole in the Wa had other ideas. A well worked team move was finished off midway through the first half by Islam Kadyrov to give Wa the lead and though Bombers huffed and puffed they rarely threatened. a second Wa goal on 75 minutes with Eddie Marshall scoring from a narrow angle put the result beyond doubt and a couple of minutes from time Kris Shannon put the icing on the cake to send the Wa through in style. The two sides met again on league business on Sunday, this time Bombers drew first blood on ten minutes, with Stephen McDill smashing home a long range shot. The Wa were level ten minutes later through Mikey Devlin, but a Greame Maxwell goal at the start of the second half had Bombers back in front. Dale Talaszko pounced on a rebound to level the match on the hour mark and the game fizzled out to a draw. Up at Beattock Moffat were completing their league campaign and receiving the trophy after a tough tie against Nithside. Julian Mills fired the home side ahead but they were pegged back before the break, A second half double from Andy Dempsey and a Jamie Carlyle strike saw them end with a win. FC Annan were also wrapping up their campaign and lifting the First Division trophy as they hosted Park Thistle. An early goal from Adnan Dogrultan had the visitors in front but Annan roared back with goals from Mark Leesing and Chris Norval turned it around, though Park levelled the match before half time through Robbie Simpson. The second half saw the hosts take charge and Chris Norval completed his hat trick, with Ryan Riches also scoring twice and John Quinn also netting. With most of the league issues decided the question of who finishes bottom of the Premier is still open, and both Dumfries and Morton suffered defeats to keep the relegation question unanswered. Scaur had eight different goalscorers in their win over Morton, with Ben Murphy, Ross Lockhart, Mathew Godridge, Craig Stitt, Ellis McLachlan, Gary Crosbie, Lee Dunsmore and Sam Kelly all scoring one apiece. Dumfries did find the net twice through Taylor Brett and Alan Lamb, but Bobby Brown and Jamie Grey both bagged a hat trick for Palmerston Colts with Darren Monteith and Greig Corbett also on the scoresheet. Recent matches involving Normandy Star have been the ones to watch for goals and Sunday was no different as Tommy Goss bagged five and Jordan Patterson and Sean McIntyre also on target on their trip to Annan Town who also had John Campbell hitting a hat-trick and Dean Gallimore finding the net. Queens Bar confirmed second spot in the First Division with Mark Carruthers scoring all four in their win over Ruthwell who had Paul Otway, Josh Davidson and Grant Bryson all on target. Last word goes to Sands AFC who have endured a torrid debut season but ended on a high with their first three points courtesy of a four goal salvo from Connor Docherty and a Danny Heron strike to edge out Kelloholm by five goals to three.
