Summerhill denied cup shock

The final silverware of the season will be contested between two of the leagues longest serving clubs after Five Arches Bombers eased past Normandy Star in the semi final of the HHGC Trophy. Greame Maxwell bagged a first half double, with a Tam Coles header sandwiched inbetween to put Bombers in control. Maxwell completed his hat trick and Russel Jardine added a fifth before Normandy got a late consolation strike. They will face Hole in the Wa who saw off a stubborn Summerhill side in the other semi. Kris Shannon and Dale Talaszko both scored in the first 20 minutes as the Wa looked to be cruising but Summerhill roared back with goals from Kyle Gallacher and Liam Watson bringing them level. Both sides had chances to win the match but it was the Wa who went through thanks to a Mikey Devlin strike. The last matter to be decided in the league is who drops to the First Division with Dumfries Athletic needing a point to climb off the foot of the table, they travelled to Penpont in hopes of getting what they needed but Scaur were in no mood to be generous hosts, Gary Crosbie scoring six, Matthew Godridge bagging a brace and Robert Menzies and Matt Coleman bringing up double figures, while Dumfries countered through Allan Lamb and two goals from Ali Baird, and now face Hole in the Wa midweek hoping they are distracted by the looming cup final as Dumfries look to get the solitary point they need. In the previous midweek Hole in the Wa picked up three points at Scaur with Terry Traynor Mark Zutic, Mikey Devlin and Bruce McQuarrie scoring and Ellis McLachlan hitting a double for the hosts. Palmerston Colts also finished their league campaign with a win as Darren Monteith bagged a brace, Bobby Brown and Liam Malcolm scored, with Darren Ross on target for Five Arches.
