Bombers make it a treble

The season drew to a close on Sunday with Five Arches Bombers adding the HHGC Trophy to their haul of silverware for the campaign. Hole in the Wa had inflicted Bombers only cup defeat this term on their way to lifting the TPS Trophy and after a cagey start had the chance to go ahead from the spot but Kris Shannon saw his spot kick well saved by Keith Proudfoot in the Bombers goal. The Wa did take the lead ten minutes later as a deep free kick was played in from the left and Bruce McQuarrie rose at the back post to head home the opener. Five Arches levelled before the interval as a ball across the box was controlled and slotted into the net by Chris Ross. It was more of the same second half with two well matched teams and two inspired goalkeepers, as well as the woodwork denying both sides. The winner came on 75 minutes as Graeme Jamieson played in man of the match Russel Jardine to coolly slot past the onrushing keeper for Bombers third cup of the season. Hole in the Wa also suffered a midweek defeat as the league campaign drew to a close. Dumfries Athletic lifted themselves off the foot of the table thanks to an early Lewis Lamb goal and a second from Ali Baird before half time. The Wa reduced the arrears through Bruce McQuarrie but a long range thump from Cain McKie gave Dumfries their first win in the Premier Division.
