The focus was on cup competitions at the weekend, kicking off with the League Cup Final, sponsored by Doonhamer Bistro, on Friday night at a wet and windy Marchmount 3G. Five Arches Bombers were looking to defend the trophy while Palmerston Colts were looking to avenge their defeat in last seasons Final. Bombers started with the lashing rain at their backs and pushed forward. The opener came from the penalty spot on fifteen minutes but despite pressure Five Arches couldn't add to that and on the half hour mark Craig Kerr hit a free kick which deceived the Bombers keeper and nestled in the net. Colts looked the livelier in the second half but Five Arches defended stoically and there was no further scoring as the tie went to penalty kicks, Keith Proudfoot earning himself man of the match by saving a spot kick to give Bombers the trophy. On Sunday it was the first round of the TPS trophy which this season is sponsored by Booker Cash and Carry. Bombers continued their fine cup pedigree as a Shaun Kevan goal saw them progress at the expense of Scaur. Hole in the Wa were behind to an early Shaun Kirk penalty against Nithside but Dale Talaszko levelled before Eddie McKeand put Wa ahead and Islam Kadyrov scored twice before a sending off saw Wa reduced to ten and Nithside pulled one back before the break through Michael McGhie, and he grabbed his second on the hour mark. As Nithside pushed for the equaliser the Wa looked dangerous on the break and Islam Kadyrov added three more goals to his tally in the last ten minutes before Robbie Simpson netted a late consolation for Nithside. Crichton Campus also went through but had to come from two down at Normandy Star as Jerzy Grzebieniak netted twice in the opening 15 minutes. Dean Waddell reduced the deficit on 16 minutes and Chris Bailey broke down the right to net a leveller on 35 minutes, Bailey then netted from the spot ten minutes into the second half to put Crichton ahead and as Normandy looked for the equaliser the were caught with five minutes to go with an own goal, and two minutes from time Bailey completed his hat trick. Normandy got a late third with Dougie Rae on hand to tap home following a free kick save. Ruthwell opened the scoring at Riverside through Owen Brown before Diesel Ferguson levelled and a Bob Clark double put Riverside in control. a second from Owen Brown set up a tense second half but it took a late penalty from Jamie Robson to send the tie to spot kicks, where David Mason saved twice to send Ruthwell through. Moffat Thistle also won through to the second round as Adam Henderson scored five, Billy Armitage, Ross McMillan, Callum Saunders and Andy Dempsey were all on the scoresheet too as Morton grabbed a solitary consolation goal.
