Big guns ease through cup challenge

The top two in the Premier clashed at the weekend with the finish line in site. It was Palmerston Colts who put themselves into pole position as they moved four points clear of Hole in the Wa with a hard fought three nil win with goals from Ryan Beattie, Craig Kerr and Mark Cravens, Scaur held mathematical hopes of lifting the title but they were dashed as they were held to a draw at Annan, and the point Town earned wasn't enough to lift them off second bottom. Stuart Holmes scored for the home side with Craig Stitt netting for the visitors. The Houliston cup kicked off and there were no real surprises. The toughest tie to call was between Morton Thistle and Crichton Campus but after a heavy league defeat last weekend Crichton bounced back to win in style. An own goal started them off but Chris Bailey scored with Jonny Richardson, Lewis Banks and Liam Logue all on target. Ruthwell Rovers put up a fight at Premier side Moffat Thistle, Luca Pagani scored twice for the visitors and Ryan Power also scored but Adam Henderson added six more to his seasons haul and Jon Muir, Billy Armitage and Lee Meikle also got on the scoresheet. Nithside were rampant against Riverside, with Michael McGhie and Thomas Nicholson grabbing four each, Cammy Sinclair, Arthur McAdam, Sandy Kennedy and Quinn Rogerson all added to the tally. Five Arches Bombers looked like hitting a similar scoreline as they faced Normandy Star with four goals in the opening five minutes through doubles from Max Hughes and Graham Maxwell. Normandy settled and it took a penalty for Sean Kevan to add to the score. Normandy brought some fine save from Keith Proudfoot in the second half but he protected his clean sheet with Dayne Moore adding a sixth to wrap up the tie.
