Nithside dampen Colts celebrations

Five Arches Bombers recorded a couple of big wins on the road last week as firstly they saw off Moffat Thistle in the Houliston Cup with a Kenni Dinnell brace, a strike from Tam Coles and an Own goal, Callum Saunders grabbed a consolation for Moffat. Bombers then kept their slim title hopes alive after edging a nine goal thriller in Penpont. Scaur struck through Jamie Rae, Drife Finlay and a double from Eddie Prunty but Bombers had a Duncan Smith hat trick, Greg Walls and Gary White goals to earn them the win which puts them three points behind Palmerston Colts with a game to play. Palmerston Colts could have clinched the title on Sunday but were held to a draw by Nithside, who went ahead through Shaun Kirk, but Ryan Beattie earned Palmerston a point with a second half strike. The two sides had also met midweek with Nithside dumping Palmerston out of the Houliston Cup thanks to a Robbie Simpson double and goals from Sandy Kennedy and Michael McGhie. Palmerston replied through Mark Cravens. FC Annan made their way into the Houliston Semis winning an eleven goal thriller against Crichton. A stoppage time penalty kick from Jimmy Reid completed his hat trick and sent Annan through with an Own Goal, Bradley James and Chris Norval the other counters for Annan. Crichton had a Lewis Banks treble, Cameron McLuckie and Mark Carruthers on the scoresheet. There were another eleven goals in FC Annan's Sunday match but this time they only bagged three with Bradley James, Chris Norval and Martin McKeeman netting against Hole in the Wa. The Dumfries side triumphed after an Allan Hunter hat trick, two from Kris Shannon, a Mark Zutic header and late brace for Sandy Bowie. That made it an Annan double for the Wa saw off Annan Town on penalties in the Houliston Cup midweek. Allan Hunter had Wa in front but Stuart Holmes levelled with a header. Dale Talaszko smashed home a goal worthy of winning the match but Liam Grimley sent the tie to penalties with a late leveller. The final midweek match was a consolation cup tie between Ruthwell and Normandy. Ruthwell went ahead with a deflected shot from Ethan Black but Normandy levelled just before half time as Jerzy Grzebieniak hit a shot which also took a deflection. Jerzy had Normandy ahead in the second with a deft finish but a free kick was headed in at the back post by James Johnstone to earn Ruthwell a point. Normandy then faced Crichton on Sunday and three goals in four minutes just after the half hour put them in control, the first an own goal then a brace from Jerzy Grzebieniak. Chris Bailey pulled one back fro Crichton in the second half but Adnan Dogrultan tapped home, Jerzy completed his hat trick and Kenny Meader scored from the spot to secure the win for Normandy despite a late Andy Baird strike for Crichton. Normandy will go head to head with Dumfries next week for a spot in the final after Dumfries saw off a stubborn Ruthwell side by a similar scoreline. Allan Lamb put Dumfries in front but James Johnstone equalised and Luca Pagani had Ruthwell ahead. Andy Linden levelled the score before Callum Jess netted twice with Kieron Murray and Corey Wells also scoring for Dumfries. In the final match of the week Annan Town picked up a good win at Moffat Thistle with goals from Stuart Holmes and Ashleigh Maxwell. Dave Lindsay scored for Moffat.
