Bombers Continue Cup Domination

Five Arches Bombers were in their fifth straight cup final, and having won the previous four were in determined mood to get back to back cup trebles. Standing in their way were Nithside, who won this trophy two years ago but haven't been in a final since. Bombers burst from the blocks and Sean Kaven had time and space to bring down a cross and smash home on 4 minutes, then 8 minutes later the same player converted a cross with the outside of his foot to make it two. Bombers looked like running riot when Kenni Dinnel curled a lovely effort into the net for 3-0. Nithside then spurned a great chance to pull one back before Paul Hastings made a great stop from a header to keep Bombers to three. The keeper had no chance on the half hour mark as Tam Coles rose to head home a corner for the fourth. Nithside had another chance to reduce the arrears before the break but the shot went agonisingly wide. Into the second half a free kick on the right from fully 35 yards deceived Keith Proudfoot and looped into the net to give NIthside hope. The goalie redeemed himself with some smart stops as Nithside pressed forward and it took til the 76th minute for Michael McGhie to add a second. With five minutes to play Nithside pulled another back to set up a tense finish but as they pushed for the equaliser they were caught at the back and Graham Jamieson wrapped up the win for Five Arches.
