Sunday League Returns with a Splash.

Despite the heavy rain last week the opening weekend of the Dumfries Sunday League saw a full fixture card go ahead. The first match up was a battle of the two newcomers to the League as Terregles hosted AFC Gretna at the NWCC in Dumfries. Terregles are amongst the favourites for the league and showed their credentials with Gary White grabbing a hat trick, Michael McGhie scoring twice and Jak Dingwall, Eddie McKeand, Sandy Bowie and Paul McCann all weighing in with goals. Gretna had Kyle Jenkinson and Alistair Smith strikes to show for their efforts. Last seasons champions Palmerston Colts hosted First Division winners Dumfries at Holm Park, with goals from Ross Stevenson, Arron Callender and Paul Dickson giving the Colts a winning start. Annan Town travelled to Scaur and went two down to goals from Ben Murphy and Robert McCormack, before rallying and scoring through Stuart Holmes and Glen Howard to rescue a point. Morton Thistle and Five Arches Bombers clashed in what had all the makings of an epic encounter, and it didn't disappoint. Anton MacKay scored in the third minute for Morton but an OG got Bombers level and Duncan Smith put them in front. Ross Coupland levelled matters with a header from a corner and five minutes from time Quinn Rogerson fired in from distance to give Morton the win. Lewis Lamb put Riverside in front against Hole in the Wa before Greg Alison equalised and Dale Talaszko scored twice to put Wa in front. Julian Mills and Kris Shannon extended the lead before Blair Watson pulled one back. Julian Mills completed the scoring with his second of the game. Normandy travelled to Lockerbie to face FC Annan and the match was goalless at half time. Annan then took the advantage with goals from Bradley James and Dion Irving, Normandy pulled one back through Luke Broadhurst but couldn't find an equaliser.
