Bombers cup streak continues

The weather put paid to a couple of games on Sunday, but the League cup semi finals survived, and lived up to their billing. Hole in the Wa and Five Arches Bombers played out an entertaining but goalless first 45 minutes but the second half had a lot more to talk about. Wa went ahead through Terry Jardine but five minutes later Bombers levelled through a David Bradbury penalty with Wa reduced to ten men. A second red card on the hour mark followed by a second David Bradbury goal. Nine man Wa then managed to level the tie again but Kendo Dinnell then put Bombers back in front with twenty to play. Wa battled manfully to rescue the match but tired legs told as David Bradbury completed his hat trick with five minutes to play and Dayne Moore added a fifth in stoppage time to see Bombers into their third straight league cup final. They will face Terregles who saw off a stubborn Scaur side. Stephen Green put Terregles ahead but Ben Murphy replied as the first half finished level. Terregles took control in the second half with Shaun Kirk and Sandy Kennedy finding the net to send them into the final at the firs time of asking. In the league Morton Thistle hosted FC Annan and a Paul Errington treble, with two from Jamie Rae one from Jason Kirkwood and a goal from a trialist gave them a convincing win to lift them to third. A fifth match did start, with Palmerston Colts taking a two goal lead against Ruthwell Rovers with strikes from Chris Mitchell and Graham Bell. Ruthwell then went down to ten men but pulled a goal back through Owen Brown, and then levelled through Lee Meikle. A second red for Ruthwell made their task a tricky one and with ten minutes left a penalty was awarded to Palmerston, which Ross Stevenson converted but the protests of the Ruthwell players continued, with the referee flashing three more red cards, forcing the match to be abandoned.
