Trophy Triumph for the Wa

Storm Ciara wiped out last Sundays fixture card but there were two matches played on Friday night. Five Arches Bombers took on Hole in the Wa as they defended the TPS trophy against the previous years winners. The rain started right on cue as the match kicked off, but credit to both sides for trying to play football in the conditions. After ten minutes it was the Wa who had their noses in front, with a cross from the right reaching the back post where Julian Mills smashed in on the half volley. The Wa continued to have the better of the first 45 while Bombers toiled to get their usual game going but it stayed 1-0 at half time. The rain subsided and Five Arches got more of a foothold in the second half and they got a deserved leveller through Graham Kilpatrick with 15 to play. The Wa though went down the other end, won a corner and Greg Alison rose to meet the ball in and headed powerfully into the roof of the net to restore their lead. a frantic last ten minutes could have seen further goals at either end but it finished 2-1 to the Wa, with Murray Thompson lifting the man of the match trophy. There was also a league match as the two Annan sides squared up at Lockerbie. It was Town who took the points as Daniel Carey helped himself to a treble, Greig Goodwin bagged a brace and Dale Muir, Dean Gallimore, John Quinn and Liam Grimley all got on the scoresheet. FC Annan managed three goals of their own.
