Lochside on the March

It was a mixed week for Inter Galloway as they picked up their first win, with goals from Reign Cain, Lewis Kirkpatrick and Caillin Renwick midweek at FC Annan but they were brough back down to earth on Sunday as Ruthwell smashed 15 unanswered goals. There were hattricks for Laurie Maxwell and Joe Elliot and doubles for LLeyton MacKay, Gabriel Bell and Irving Agnew, as well as goals from Dale Muir, Jack Ball and Grant Kerr.

That made it 21 goals without conceding for Ruthwell as they beat Dumfries 6-0 midweek with Dale Muir grabbing a treble and Jack Ball, Irving Agnew and Darren Notman on the scoresheet. Dumfries did score four on Sunday - all from Callum Jess but they went out of the cup on penalties to Threave who had a Darrel Wilson hattrick and Charlie Cantlie goal to thank as they progressed. Threave had also picked up a midweek draw at Saints Colts with a Ewan Taylor brace and Rowan Carnochan on target, with Saints goals coming from Joseph Kelly, Carter Neil and Kieran Ross. A midweek league match at Penpont saw Scaur take the first points from Birchtree as they sides shared 4 goals, Craig Stitt and Drife Finlay were on target for the home side and Frazer McClelland and Ross Hunter replied for Birchtree. Scaur then hosted Normandy Star in the cup, and the two sides exchanged early goals with Alan Hunter putting Star ahead and Ted Howie levelling. Darren Johnstone, Scott Anderson and Alan Hunter had the visitors in control before Kieron Kenny pulled on back but a second goal for Darren Johnstone sent Normandy into the semis. Birchtree swept past Eastriggs with Ross Hunter and Steven Campbell grabbing a hattrick apiece, Corey Thomson netting twice and Grant Watkins on target. That defeat for Eastriggs came on top of a midweek loss at Palmerston Colts, despite goals from Cammy Irvine and Stuart Smith, an Ally Mason double, Cameron Thomson Jack McColm and Greg Cameron gave the home side the win. Colts did bow out of the cup at the weekend though, Russel Thomson and Jamie Goodwin scoring against Hole in the Wa but Dale Talaszko and Ricky Baxter sent the tie to extra time with Sean Peat and Kris Shannon putting the Wa through. That cup win made up for a midweek league defeat to Lochside Club, Graeme Maxwell netted twice for the Wa but Sean Potts hit four and Keegan Johnstone was also on the scoresheet for Lochside, who continued their fine start with an impressive 5-0 cup win at Annan Town,, Sean Potts grabbed two more goals with Ross Stevenson, Joseph Marshall and Jamie Rae all pitching in. The final midweek match was a thriller with Annan Town being pegged back twice by Normandy Star, Duncan Ross and Darren Watson cancelled out by Scott Anderson and Brodie Paterson before a stoppage time free kick found the net off a defender to give Town all three points.
