Saints savour Scottish success

It was the first round of the Sunday Trophy at the weekend and we three of our seven teams won to join four teams already in the second-round draw. Saints Colts took their first foray into the national Competition and picked up a fine win at Lochgreen thanks to goals from Carter Niel, Christopher Wilson and Ross Campbell. Hole in the Wa also went through with a comprehensive 7-0 win at East End. Chris Ross and Kris Shannon both bagged a brace, with Danny Bryson and Murray Thompson on the scoresheet, with the other an Own Goal. Also winning on the road were Ruthwell Rovers with doubles from Luca Pagani and Josh Davidson edging them past Anchor Sociedad. There was no such luck for FC Annan as they lost out to a late goal at Lanarkshire United despite twice being ahead through a Jared Paterson header and spectacular overhead kick from Bradley James. Inter Galloway found their trip to Glasgow much tougher as they lost heavily to AFC Silverburn. Lochside Club suffered a first loss of the season at the hands of Overlee Colts, while Dumfries Athletic also bowed out to Troon Town after going three nil down, goals from Callum Jess and Mark Wilson weren't enough to rescue the tie.

Normandy Star were 2.0 up against Eastwood Park thanks to Cammy Sinclair and Luke Broadhurst but were pegged back before Declan Murphy, Darren Johnstone and Luke Broadhurst sent them in ahead. Eastwood came back strongly in the second half, and Normandy were reduced to ten men as the visitors turned it round to win 6-5. There were also two league games, with a cracking encounter at Annan where Birchtree picked up a hard-fought win with goals from Jamie Nish, Ross Hunter and Grant Watkins while Annan had a Benjamin Wagner double for their efforts. Up at Penpont, Scaur picked up their first win of the season in another tight match, goals from Kieran Kenny and Ted Bowie were enough to see of Threave who had Aaron Campbell on the scoresheet.
