Normandy Star 2 Hole in the Wa 3

This cup tie paired Normandy and Hole in the Wa together a week after the Wa had edged a five goal thriller in the league and another tight match was expected. Both teams made a handful of changes but it was the Wa who found their rhythm quicker, opening the scoring after five minutes with a crossfield pass which had the defence looking for offside but the striker controlled and finished well. Ten minutes later it was two, as the Wa broke quickly catching Normandy with players upheld, a ball down the left wing, an early cross and a fine header had them in charge. Normandy quickly pulled one back tho as Luke swing a corner in and Harper got to the front post and turned the ball in from a narrow angle. As last week the two teams were largely cancelling each other out with both sides wary of making any errors. It took til the 36th minute for Normandy to get level, as Jerzy curled a speculative left footed effort from the right which evaded the keepers grasp and nestled in the net. So the sides went in level at the break and the second half was equally tentative, Normandy perhaps had the better chances with Harper hitting the bar and Robbie finding the side netting. The Wa also had chances but couldn't compose themselves in front of goal. Into stoppage time and with penalties looming The Wa were awarded a free kick on the half way line which was lofted to the back post and met with a fantastic header to send them to the semis.
