Despite their lowly league position, Riverside always provide a stubborn opposition and coming back from a lengthy winter break Normandy were sure to be rusty and the cold weather and frosty ground also added to their task. The first half was very much one of huffing and puffing for Normandy, played mostly on the front foot but met with solid defending and resilient goalkeeping it took till the 43rd minute to break the deadlock. A free kick from the left was whipped in by Ben, catching the keeper off guard and dipping into the net. Five minutes into the second half Dean played a through ball to Jerzy, who waited for the keeper to commit before slotting past him to double the advantage and it was then a case of how many. Still Riverside battled painfully and it took 20 minutes for the third, as Ben was played in and unselfishly squared for Jerzy to tap home. Ten minutes later Darrell squeezed home from a narrow angle to make it four and complete a workmanlike victory. Next week Normandy host FC Annan looking to avenge an opening day defeat.
