Riverside 2 Normandy Star 5

Riverside may be stuck at the wrong end of the league but they have improved vastly in recent matches, and after giving Normandy a stern test a few weeks ago looked to go one better. The opening exchanges were tentative, with both teams having half chances to go ahead. On the twentieth minute Andy tried to dribble out of defence, he felt he was clipped as the ball was stolen from him and the attacker launched an effort which sailed over Grant's head in the swirling wind to give Riverside the lead. Normandy huffed and puffed to get back into the game, with Riverside solid in midfield and playing the offside trap to full effect at the back. It looked like Normandy were going to have to make some changes at half time but five minutes from the break Dean burst through midfield and was fouled on the left corner of the box, Luke whipped the free kick into the top corner from 25 yards to level the match and a couple of minutes later a handball gave Ben the chance to step up and put Normandy in front from the spot. A quick third at the start of the second half as Luke broke down the right and squared for Ben to finish and with twenty left to play Star made it four, with Kenan crossing from the right for Ben to head down and complete his hat trick. A few minutes later Luke got the wrong side of the defender to go one on one and was pulled back, but Harper followed up to smash into the empty net to seal the win. Riverside kept going and a fantastic long range shot from Mary looked goal bound til Grant dived full length to tip over the bar. Riverside did add a second in the dying minutes as Jonny conceded a penalty which was duly dispatched.
