Park Thistle 7 Queens Bar 3
An interesting season opener was in prospect as Park hosted Queens Bar in the league cup with the two sides both looking to challenge for the First Division and hoping to set an early marker. Robbie Simpson could have opened the scoring on 4 minutes but found the side net and within 3 minutes Queens Bar went ahead as the winger raced down the right flank, into the box and smashed into the roof of the net. It took til the 15th minute for Park to level, Quinn Rogerson raced into the box and was barged over before getting up to coolly slot home the resultant spot kick. Park were looking the more likely and on the half hour Chris Bailey put them ahead with an audacious effort from the left byeline. The third followed ten minutes later as a deep corner fell to Robert Clyde who smashed into the net, Park made it 4 just before half-time as A free kick was played into the box and Cole Rogerson pounced to fire home. Queens looked livelier second half with more of an attacking edge but Park were resolute and added to the scoreline on 50 minutes with Andrew Baird playing in Nathan Watt who squared for Rab Clyde to steer home his second. The sixth came 7 minutes later as Robbie Simpson controlled and twisted in the box making the space to fire home. Queens pulled one back a couple of minutes later as Park failed to clear their lines from a free kick in their own box. A raft of substitutions broke the flow of the game but Park did add a seventh ten minutes from time as the keeper spilled an Andy Baird cross at the feet of Jonny Riddick to score. Queens did grab a consolation with the last kick of the ball as Park again were undone from a corner. Next up for Park is a midweek trip to Scaur,
